He didn’t seem like a dangerous man, but looks could be deceiving. She of all people knew that. And it wasn’t just because she was wearing the body of a magical princess of beauty, but it was because of her father that had been laying on a bed in his chambers for over eight years. Eight years ago, when the witch first came.
He could be working for the witch! Why hadn’t she thought of that before? He hadn’t asked her where she was from or who she was! That was really suspicious right?
For the first time in a long time, Freya felt scared at the thought of being alone and out of the protection of the palace. Hadn’t she always wanted to be out? Her eyes darted back to the dwarf who was gawking at her stupidly with round eyes. No, those weren’t the eyes of a man who wanted to hurt her, those were the eyes of a hot blooded full grown man who was just seeing a woman for the first time in his life.
Yea, blame that on the magic!
She looked away quickly but from the peripheral of her eyes, she could see the dwarf still gawking like he hadn’t seen her catch him looking at her like that. That was the least of her concerns, she was hungry, and she really needed to eat. Yes, she had to leave his house before it was too late, but she had to eat first. And she had no guarantee that the food hadn’t been poisoned.
She rose up from the chair she was sitting on, and the dwarf jumped.
“Princess, can I get you anything?” He asked, dropping the crystal plate he was holding carelessly on the table.
What! That was clumsy, how could he drop a crystal plate like that!
“No, it’s okay. I was only going to take a look.” She replied, hiding her fear behind a wide smile.
His eyes darted to the door quickly and darted back; but she saw that, and she pretend to ignore it.
“You have a nice collection of weapons, and what do we have here…….wow, these are bear skins!” She exclaimed.
“Well yes, I use them from time to time.” He replied and looked away in thought, speaking to himself this time. “Though the time to use them again seem to have come!”
Yes, that’s it! He’s going to kill me! Or worse still, hand me over to the witch!
