I knocked on her door that morning and before I could take another knock at it, the door flung open and the love of my life was smiling right at me. And I froze.
“Thank God.” She said, obviously relieved about something. “Come inside.” She said and turned around not waiting for me to reply. I went inside, and closed the door.
“Thank you for coming.” She started but I didn’t even hear the rest of what she was saying. My senses had completely flown off and all I could do was stare at her as she listed the list of chores I had to do before she returned home.
Yes, chores! She obviously had mistaken me for a housemaid but my senses had completely eluded me and I found out that I couldn’t even talk.
When she was done, she handed me the spare key to the house and left. Suddenly, I came back to my senses and tried to explain to her that I wasn’t a housemaid but she was already on her phone and she ran out of the house signaling to me to keep quiet. I didn’t want to annoy her on my first day but neither was I okay with her mistaking me for a maid but I decided to keep quiet and wait till she came back.
But it turned out to be, I shouldn’t have waited at all.
Devon had a daughter which broke my heart at first when I knew but after learning that she was a single mom, nothing else mattered again. And that daughter wasn’t just any daughter, she was a little horror.
She made me do all the chores over and over again and whenever I tried to scold her, she threatened to call the police and report that I was trying to assault her. It doesn’t matter what I say, she would win if she did. So, I decided to play things by her rules and when Devon returned in the evening, I looked totally like the maid she thought I was.
I didn’t get the chance to introduce myself properly, so I went home tired but thrilled.
If this was how I was going to get Devon, I would do it and just maybe someday soon, I could get my work back.
I went to Devon’s place the next day as a maid and every other day for a month. But during that time, I had gotten a job at the company I had the problem with and Devon’s daughter, Ellie and I had bonded.
The company was happy to have someone like me with credentials that I had work as a technician for them. But I had my plans.
Things were finally going to work for me again and even Devon and I had bonded a little. I don’t know if she saw it as bonding but I certainly saw it as bonding. It was a beautiful beginning for me. For us!
