“I need to ease my self, I’ll be right back,” i said to no one in particular and stood up.
“You haven’t eaten anything na,” Zia said.
I looked down at my food, barely touched. “I am not really that hungry but I’ll come back.”
I walked away from the table and found my way to the rest room, going into one of the stalls and sitting down to calm my self. I was trying so hard to hold the tears in because the last thing I wanted to do was ruin my make up.
My door opened and I looked up to see Matt closing the door of my stall.
I immediately got up. “What are you doing here?!”
“Calm down, I just want to talk.”
I tried to go out but he blocked my road and there wasn’t much space in here. “Matthew please we can talk outside, I don’t want any problem.”
“What did he do to you?”
“Nothing. Just let me go, please.”
“Hey, hey, look at me.” And that she did, she looked at him and she wished she didn’t because in that moment, she broke down. He hugged her close to him as he comforted her, telling her it was all okay.
When she finally calmed down, he helped her wipe her tears. “Are you going to tell me what’s wrong?”
“We, we are wrong. What we have is wrong, what we’re doing is wrong and–”
“I know, but I can’t stay away from you. D, I want more than just sex.”
“That is not going to be possible,” she started shaking her head. “I am with Uche.”
“Is that who you really want to be with?”
“It doesn’t matter, Matt. It doesn’t.”
“You want to be me with me, don’t you?”
“I didn’t say that–”
“You did, not directly.”
She paused for a while to arrange her thoughts, Matthew’s presence was getting it all jumbled up. “Matt, I can’t leave your brother.”
“He won’t let me.”
“He doesn’t have to, you just need to call it–”
“Matt, it’s not that easy!”
“Ok, ok. Why? Make me understand.”
“Your brother,” she tried to explain to him. “Your brother has done so much for me, everybody knows us, your parents, my mom. What will they say.”
“I don’t give a fuck!”
“Matt, you’re not–”
“Sssh,” he said and shut her up for real by meeting her lips with hers and she responded quickly, dragging his shirt for more of him. She couldn’t stop the tear drop that escaped her eyes as they fell on their joined lips and joined in their soft kiss.
“Are you crying again?” He asked when he pulled back to look at her.
She smiled at him as she shook her head.
“I don’t know what to do, Matt. I’m so confused.”
He tilted her chin so she was looking up at him. “Is there something that happened that you haven’t told me?”
“It doesn’t matter, Matt. It’s nothing serious.” She wanted to tell him, everything in her was screaming for her to tell him what had happened but she knew how he would react, not lightly at all.
“Can you help me do something? I would really appreciate.”
“Anything, anything at all.”
“I want to spend the night at your place, please. Just cook up a lie for me, I would really appreciate. He would listen to you, please.”
“Okay, okay. I will tell him that Jasmine needs your help with something, is that okay?” Jasmine was his neighbor.
“Anything is fine, anything at all.”
Matthew’s phone rang and Uche’s name was flashed on the screen.
“I have to go, you’ll come out in like five minutes, okay?”
She nodded and kissed him one last time before he left. She walked out behind him to use one of the mirrors in the restroom and caught a woman looking at her like she was dirt, she guessed that she saw Matt leaving. She didn’t pay her any attention as she walked to the mirrors. She used her hand towel to dab her face and when she was sure she looked okay, she walked out.
